Latin America: Telecommunication companies turning to IT services (08/03/2010)

According to business research & consulting firm Frost & Sullivan, the telecommunication companies in Latin America are entering into IT (Information Technology) services market due to falling revenues in the fixed-line telephony market. The consultancy described the entrance of telecommunications firms into IT services as one of the biggest trends shaping the Latin American outsourcing industry. Latin America's IT outsourcing market is expected to increase by 12.7% to reach USD 2.2 billion in the year 2010, with Brazil and Colombia having the highest growth potential. Some of the major regional telecom operators turning to IT services are: Brazilian telecoms operator Telefônica-Telesp, Argentinean operator Telecom-Argentina, and Spanish telecom giant Telefonica.
