Ethnic Origins: The population of South Sudan is composed of different communities:  the Dinkas, whose population is estimated to be more than one million persons and constitute the largest community.  There are also the Shiluk and the Nuer which are Nilotic communities.  The Zandes and the Jur Chol are communities located on the west and the Acholis and the Lotuhus live on the extreme south.

Other Languages Spoken: One finds a large amount of vernacular languages in South Sudan, recognized as "national languages" by the Constitution and spoken by about two million persons.  Notably: Bary, Toposa,Zande and the Moro-Madi languages.  The most important vernacular language is Nuer-Dinka which accounts for more than 1.3 million speakers.  The Arabic language  from Juba is also largely wide-spread.

Religion: Most of the inhabitants (76.8%) of this country are Christians.  The animistes represent 21% and the muslims 2.2%.

South Sudan's economy depends on agriculture and oil.  Its main productions are: cotton, peanuts, sorghum, millet, wheat, corn, Arabic gum, sugar-cane and manioc.  The country has a subsoil rich in oil, iron ore, copper, chromium, zinc, tungsten, mica, silver and gold.
